Let me explain.  You see, most of these websites make HUGE promises - promises that the paid surveys industry can never live up to.  Sure, you can in fact make money with paid surveys, but it needs to be one of many sources of income. 

With real paid surveys you can expect to make a few hundred to a couple thousand dollars a month.  Expecting more, is somewhat unrealistic, but these scammers will have you believe that paid surveys make you rich.  Then they sell you outdated lists of paid survey sites that are either of no use to you or, don't tell you much.

Do companies actually pay for surveys?

In a nutshell, yes.  Paid surveys is not a new concept.  The internet has just made it easier for large companies to reach the individual consumer.  So what was once a big chunk of money being paid by large corporations to a market research firm, is now lots of small checks being paid to individuals.

What are these paid online surveys sites being promoted these days?

This is not a simple answer.  Most of these paid survey sites are hyped up scams.  Many are not.  Like I said, it's not a simple answer. 

Many of these sites simply give you a list or websites to join and generally they all have a similar list.  But here's the kicker...these same paid survey sites, also capture your name and email address. 

Seems innocent right?  After all, you can't buy something online without giving your name and email address right?  True, but with these "scammer like" paid online surveys sites, once you give them your name and email address, they are also adding you to a list where spammers get a hold of your email address. 

Then, what was once a manageable email account for you, is now an email account that's a nightmare to open and read. On top of selling your email address and giving you an outdated, useless list of paid survey programs that don't pay...these sites also see to it that your home address doesn't go to "waste" so you can expect a flood of new junk mail too!

Listen, if you feel paid surveys are what you want to do, then don't be discouraged by what I just said.  Just be sure to use a separate email address first when registering.  This will save you from your primary email box full of offers you don't want to receive.  Remember I also said there are good sites too, and you won't want to miss these easy offers, because completing survey tasks are the easiest thing to do.

I've signed up the a few myself, and actually made some pretty quick money.  In just 10 minutes of completing paid survey forms, I had already pocketed over $30.  Not bad.  Right now, I'm trying to get into some of the panel surveys which pay up to $150 per panel.

UPDATE:  There is a company out there called AWSurveys (dot) com.  STAY far away from these scammers.  Their survey software leads you to believe that you'll be getting lots of surveys to work on.  The catch is that you must accumulate $75 before you can even get paid.  Oh, and please also note that it could take months before you'll be able to get enough surveys to get to $75.  Why do they do this?  Who knows other than they're just trying to collect email addresses.  One last interesting fact about this company is that when you do reach $75, and request a payment, it can take 4-6 weeks via a check in the mail.  However, if you request your payout through Paypal (which is online), then you'll get your payment in 3-5 days, BUT, and a BIG BUT, you must pay the $25 expedite fee to get your cash.  Isn't that interesting that they no longer have to hire someone to cut a physical check and drop it in the mail,  but simply click a button to pay you, that they would charge you for something that just saved them more time?  Paypal doesn't even charge them ANY fees to send a payment to you, and they say that they do.  Can you smell something funny here?  By the way, they're still late on the payment.  Watch out for these crooks!
